Japanese leg sleeve
Thigh, calf or the whole leg from hip to ankle.
The leg offers a lot of room and a long vertical surface. In Japanese style it is used much like the arm: one main motif, a background and a composition that wraps around the limb.

Thigh, calf or full leg
The thigh is a large, fairly flat surface, good for a standalone scene: a figure, a mask, a tiger. The calf suits smaller pieces and single motifs.
The whole leg, from hip to ankle, is the equivalent of a sleeve. I lead a motif such as a dragon or a koi along the leg so it is visible from the front and the side, with the background tying the thigh to the calf.

Knee and ankle
The hardest places on a leg are the knee and the ankle. The skin moves most there, so I put background or simple, strong elements in those spots rather than fine detail. That way the tattoo looks good on a straight leg and on a bent one.
The leg as part of a larger piece
A leg tattoo can be joined to a back piece: the background then runs from the back over the buttock onto the thigh. If you are thinking of such a project, it is worth saying so at the start, even if the back is to be done much later.

FAQ
01How much does a tattoo cost?
The price depends on the size, the placement, the amount of detail and the number of sessions. Tell me what you want, give the size and placement and attach references, and I will prepare a quote for your project.
02What is the first step?
Message me on WhatsApp or Instagram: your idea, placement, approximate size and references. I will tell you whether it can be done, suggest a format and a rough price, and then we book a consultation or go straight to a session date.
03How far in advance should I book?
I usually book a few weeks ahead. For large projects we plan the following sessions straight away.
04How do I prepare for a session?
Get a good night’s sleep. Eat a proper meal before the session and drink plenty of water. Avoid alcohol and medication that affects blood clotting, provided stopping it is safe and agreed with your doctor. Wear comfortable clothes that give easy access to the area.
05Which styles do you tattoo?
Three: Japanese, neo-traditional and traditional. What they share is a bold outline and full colour, which is what makes a tattoo age well. Japanese is my main specialisation; neo-traditional and traditional I have tattooed alongside it for years.
